Better Than Dinner and a Movie: Outdoor Cinema Date Nights

Dinner and a movie has an obvious flaw. You spend the first half talking and the second half not talking, in a room full of strangers, in the dark.

This flips it.

What's actually different

You're alone. Not alone in a room with other people. Actually alone. Nobody behind you, nobody checking their phone in your eyeline, nobody talking through the good part.

You can talk. The sound comes through headphones, so lifting one earcup to say something doesn't disturb anybody and you haven't missed anything when you put it back.

It's your space. Your lawn, your rooftop, the villa you've rented. Nobody's waiting for the table back.

It lasts. A restaurant booking has an unspoken end time. This runs as long as you've booked it for.

Where couples do this

Front lawns and back yards mostly. Rooftops are lovely. Villa and Airbnb lawns are getting popular for anniversary weekends and proposals.

What's involved

Evenings for one or two guests get built individually rather than priced off our standard package, because what you need is genuinely different.

The cinema itself is the same equipment. HD projection, freestanding screen, silent headphones, battery powered site lighting, full setup and pull down by a dedicated crew.

Past that, it's built to whatever you want. Private dining cooked and plated on site by a partner chef is available, including the full table setting.

Picking the film

The best couples' screenings are almost never the newest thing out.

Something from the year you met. The film you saw on your first date. The one they quote constantly that you've never actually sat through. The whole point of a private screening is that your choice can be personal instead of good.

If you do want something recent, ask us before you fix the date.

If you're proposing

An outdoor cinema suits a proposal unusually well, for one specific reason. It gives you a completely plausible excuse for an elaborate evening.

We can also run a personal video on the screen before the feature starts.

If that's what you're planning, tell us. We'll keep it confidential on the crew's side and plan the timing with you.

One thing worth saying

We're present at private moments. We work quietly, we don't photograph guests without permission, and we don't trade on what we see.

That's worth saying out loud, because it's a fair thing to wonder about before inviting a crew into your evening.
